Overlap targeting allows you to create more complex relationships between the different attributes you wish to target. Overlap targeting is available on Custom Audience, Interest and Behaviour targeting.
Prior to this format of targeting, all items in a targeting type such as customer audience would have been targeted as is if they were separated with the word OR.
This example targets people who are interested in Rugby union OR England Rugby OR 2015 Rugby World Cup i.e. the user can be in one, two or all three of these audiences and will still be targeted. In a Venn diagram this example would look like:
By stipulating an overlap you create a more complex relationship of these attributes e.g:
This example targets people who are interested in Rugby union AND England Rugby AND 2015 Rugby World Cup i.e. the user MUST be in all three in order for them to see the advert you are creating. A Venn diagram of this targeting would look like:
NOTE: Stipulating lots of AND relationships can drastically reduce the reach of your adverts so do pay attention to the 30 day reach estimate on the right hand side.
